We went to this prestigious hotel on one of the coldest and wettest weekends in Cape Town. So a warm ambience was just what we needed. The Vineyard Hotel and Spa is on the banks of the Liesbeeck River and boasts a history of more than 200 years.
Walking through the lobby one senses the olde world charm. Paintings and memorabilia tell the story of the hotel's origins. As we walked excitedly along the passage our welcome was made even warmer as the housekeeping staff greeted us and wished us a happy stay.
The Junior Deluxe suite exceeded our wildest expectations. At just over R4 000 a night, this suite has a modern look and feel, and my partner was totally enthused by the two flat screen TVs. The walk-out patio offers views of the six-acre garden which has a colonial feel created by manicured gardens and water features. And the glimpse of Table Mountain covered with heavy clouds formed the perfect backdrop.
The Square Restaurant and Warwick Wine Estate offered a food and wine pairing feast. The four courses served were indeed augmented by the accompanying wines.
Location
The Vineyard Hotel & Spa is situated in Colinton Road (off Protea Road), Newlands, Cape Town.
Comfortable?
We had the privilege of staying in a Junior Deluxe suite which had all the creature comforts one could long for. The room boasts a king size bed, lounge with leather couches and two flat screen TVs.
Extras
The turndown service included the expected chocolates. The minibar is standard and quite expensive, so it makes sense to rather use the Residents' Lounge for a nightcap. The hotel has two restaurants, The Square and Myoga, a health and fitness centre and a state-of-the-art gymnasium. Alongside is the award-winning Angsana Spa where you can "calm your mind and draw in the serenity of your surroundings. All therapies begin with a soothing foot wipe and herbal tea".
Bottom Line
Rooms start from R1 100 which opens the doors of this luxurious set-up to the local tourists as well as their foreign counterparts.
