The award was announced at a gala dinner hosted at the Cape Town Convention Centre.

The public was invited to nominate their selection via SMS to Good Hope FM and various other institutions such as Cape Town Tourism to compile a list of nominees.

Once this was done Capetonians were presented with a list of finalists, again being supported and voted for via SMS and online voting.

Categories included SHOPPING IN CAPE TOWN, CAPE TOWN ACHIEVERS, CAPE TOWN HOSPITALITY, CREATIVE CAPE TOWN and CAPE TOWN HEROES. The three finalists in the Hospitality best accommodation category were the Vineyard Hotel & Spa, the Mount Nelson Hotel and the Daddy Long Legs Boutique Hotel.

Criteria for these finalists included a well developed environmental policy, strong social responsibility activity, a focus on human capital development and be Cape Town based.

The Good Hope FM Best of Cape Town Awards were established to recognise, reward and applaud Capetonians, who have achieved excellence to the point at which the public has rated them as the best in their field of expertise.

By creating a culture amongst Capetonians which celebrates success and excellence, it endeavours to raise the bar of service delivery and ensure Cape Town's status as a world class destination.
